Robinson’s Big Night Powers Chargers’ Comeback Win vs. BHC

The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team closed with an 18-4 push and rallied to beat Black Hawk 69-61 on Sophomore Night on Tuesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Braves (10-14, 3-4 Arrowhead Conference) trailed 46-40 before rattling off 13 straight points — highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Jacob Pauley and another from Blake Maris — for a 53-46 lead with 6:29 to play.
  • With Sandburg (19-7, 5-2) trailing 57-51, a three-point play from freshman Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) with 4:07 left kickstarted a 13-0 run that gave Sandburg the lead for good.
  • Young found sophomore forward Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) for a 3-pointer at 3:40 to tie the game at 57, and Robinson followed with a baseline jumper with 1:50 left to give Sandburg the lead.
  • The Chargers held Black Hawk to just one field goal in the final 5:20.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Robinson was a monster on both ends while recording his 19th double-double of the season. He finished with 24 points on 8-of-18 shooting and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, with six coming on the offensive end.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS

  • Freshman guard Scott Gowan scored 12 points and matched Robinson for the team lead with three steals.
  • Young scored 11 points and had seven rebounds.
  • Freshman Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) hauled in nine rebounds.

FOR THE BRAVES
Pauley hit six 3s and scored 23 to lead the Braves. Maris added 11 points for Black Hawk.

UP NEXT
The Chargers and Braves will play the back end of their home-and-home series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Moline in Sandburg’s regular season finale. The Chargers will begin postseason play Feb. 28 in the quarterfinals of the Region IV tournament.

FRIDAY VS. HIGHLAND CANCELED
The Sandburg men’s and women’s makeup date Friday at home against Highland has been canceled because it will not factor into the Arrowhead Conference championship.
